Haydn String Quartets, Op. 20

Joseph Haydn composed his six String Quartets, Op. 20, in 1772. These quartets are among the works that earned him the name "the father of the string quartet." In these pieces Haydn develops compositional techniques that were to define the medium for the next 200 years, so they are considered a milestone in the history of composition.
