Borodin String Quartet no. 2 in D major

The String Quartet no. 2 in D major was written in 1881 in Zhitovo, while Borodin was staying with his friend, the composer Nikolai Lodyzhensky. The year of its composition, also saw the composition of the symphonic poem In the Steppes of Central Asia; the quartet was premiered between 1881 and 1882.
