Arcangelo Corelli published his 12 Sonatas for Violin and Continuo in 1700, and dedicated the work to Sophie Charlotte, Electress of Brandenburg. The most known of these pieces (which are said to be defining in the genre) is the last one, no. 12 'la Folia'.
