Ferrucio Busoni composed his Sonatina for piano solo, no. 5, BV 280, in 1919. It was first published the same year, and dedicated to Philipp Jarnach. The piece, also titled 'Brief sonatina after Johann Sebastian' is a piece created in the spirit of J.S. Bach's Fantasy and Fugue in D minor, BWV 905 (a piece of dubious authenticity). It uses a motiv from Bach's piece at the beginning, and soon after moves into another realm, working the original motiv into the texture.
