Amédée Dutacq was a French organist, composer and musician. That same year, he entered the organ class of César Franck, course in which also Vincent d'Indy joined. Also a composition student of Henri Reber, Dutacq appears in 1875 in Rome with the cantata contest Clytemnestra, a text-Roger Ballu, which receives an "honorable mention". The following year he won his first Grand Prix with second cantata Judith (libretto of Paul Delair).
