Amédée Dutacq was a French organist, composer and musician. Studied music at the Paris Conservatory, where he earned a second prize in harmony in 1869 and second prize in counterpoint and fugue in 1874. That same year, he entered the organ class of César Franck, course in which also Vincent d'Indy joined. Also a composition student of Henri Reber, Dutacq appears in 1875 in Rome with the cantata contest Clytemnestra, a text-Roger Ballu, which receives an "honorable mention". The following year he won his first Grand Prix with second cantata Judith (libretto of Paul Delair). Hoping to win the Grand Prix, he tries again in 1877, but the assigned topic, Rebecca at the fountain.
