José Basanta Fernández Pacheco, known as José Pacheco, was a musician and a Choirmaster.
In 1795, he joined the children's choir of Mondoñedo Cathedral , where he was instructed in musical education. In 1805 the council sent him to Santiago de Compostela to deepen his musical education with master Melchor Lopez. It was from him that he took a fondness for Galician Carols.
