Charles Coleman was an English composer. Before and after the years of the English Commonwealth, was associated with the King's Musick as both a performer (instrumentalist and singer) and a composer. During the Commonwealth, was in favor among antiroyalists and remained active as a teacher, performer, and composer, as well as receiving the Mus.D. from Cambridge in 1651. Wrote both songs and, more important, instrumental music. Some of his compositions were published during his lifetime, but many, especially fantasias and dance music, survived in manuscript only.
