Chopin Mazurkas, Op. 17

Frédéric Chopin composed his set of Mazurkas, Op. 17, between 1832 and 1833. They were first published in Leipzig in 1834, dedicated to Lina Freppa. While writing these pieces, Chopin was staying in France, exiled from his native Poland: there is a strong nationalistic component in the Mazurkas Op. 17. A typical performance of the set lasts about fourteen minutes.
