Michel Farinel was a French violinist and composer of Baroque. Michel Farinel received his first composition lessons from Giacomo Carissimi in Rome. From 1672 he was back in France and married Marie-Anne Cambert (1647-1724) The couple traveled in 1679 to Spain with an opera troupe headed by the librettist Henry Guichard. In Madrid Farinel became Superintendent of music and dance of the Spanish Queen Marie-Louise, daughter of the Duke of Orleans. When he returned to France in 1688, he was given a job as a violinist at the court of Versailles. A year later he settled near his hometown of Grenoble, where he was given the post of Kapellmeister at the nunnery "Monastère royal de Mont Fleury" in Sorenc and took, in Grenoble, the direction of the concerts in the Abbey "Ste Cécile". In August 1692 Michel Farinel was Vice inspector of Paymaster for the officer salaries of the Parliament of the Dauphiné (payeur of gages des officiers du Parlement du Dauphiné), a post he held until a few months before his death.
