The Rákóczi March, Rákóczi induló, or Hungarian March, was the unofficial anthem of Hungary before the composition of the Himnusz by Ferenc Kölcsey. A popular tune, it was probably composed around 1730, with several versions registered. Hector Berlioz included its melody in La Damnation de Faust (1846), and Franz Liszt wrote a number of arrangements of it, including his Hungarian Rhapsody no. 15. Pianist Vladimir Horowitz alsoc omposed a variation of the march, drawing elements from both the Liszt and Berlioz versions. This version by Ferdinand Beyer was first published in 1850 as his Op. 24.
