Ludwig Christian Erk was a German composer and musician. In his time on the Rhine, he founded the bergisch-niederrheinischen teacher singing festivals. In 1845 he founded the Erk'schen men's glee club. This club he added 1852 a mixed choir. Erk composed music and was an intense folk song collector. He had a collection of about 20,000 folk songs, which he published in songbooks. In addition, he was involved in 1850 together with Ernst Julius Hentschel in the publication of the music magazine Euterpe.
