Giuseppe Cristiani was an Italian composer. He began his musical studies under the guidance of his father, continuing them then from 1879 in the Roman music school of St. Cecilia. In 1885 he studied composition with E. Terziani, and finished this course with honors. also getting the special medal in the competition of the Ministry of Education; the following year he graduated as brilliantly in piano under the teachings of G. Sgambati, of which he was considered one of the best students. In the same year he performed at Costanzi his symphonic fantasy, won the competition held by the Società orchestrale romana, directed by E. Pinelli who, at that time, in addition to promoting performances of symphonic classical and romantic music then almost unknown in Rome, contributed to the formation of a modern Italian orchestral repertoire. The Fantasy of Cristiani, however, was considered too modern by the roman press, despite the approval of the public.
