Franz Adam Veichtner was born in Regensburg. He studied there with the violinist and theorist Joseph Riepel, and was later sent to Postdam to work with Brenda. In 1763, he entered the service of a Baltic nobleman, and two yaers later he was appointed concertmaster to the court of Courland in Mitau. After 1795, when Courland lost its independence, he moved to St. Petersburg, where he worked until 1820 before returning to the area in wich his most significant work had been done
