Except for a period in Rome as Papal singer (from 1631) and as a priest in the services of Cardinal Francesco Barberini and Cardinal Antonio Barberini (1637-42), spent his life in Florence, becoming maestro di cappella at S. He published both 5-part madrigals and pieces for 1, 2 and 3 voices in the modern style, as well as a little church music in a more archaic idiom. His opera L'Aretusa(1620), though musically undistinguished, is important as one of the first productions of the kind in Rome; he also wrote music for intermedi.
