Bernard-Louis Crocé-Spinelli Sheet Music

Bernard-Louis Crocé-Spinelli was a French composer and music teacher. Croce-Spinelli received his first training from his mother before he entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1884, at the age of thirteen. There he studied composition with André Gedalge. In 1897 he won with the cantata Fredegonde on a text by Charles Morel the Seconde Grand Prix de Rome. His first composition was published in 1892, and in 1898 the baritone Jean Bartet sang in the Cirque des Champs-Elysées under the direction of Camille Chevillard the premiere of his three Poèmes chantes. In 1902 he was appointed as successor of Louis Deffès as the director of the Conservatory of Toulouse. In his twelve-years stay there he built an orchestra of international standing, whose repertoire included not only the music of the classical and romantic also the works by contemporary composers. He also composed a number of piano works there and chamber works.
