Jean Paul Ertel was a German composer. He was pupil of Franz Liszt. Later he lived as a music critic and teacher in Berlin. He composed several symphonic poems, a symphony, two string quartets, a violin sonata, a suite for violin and piano, and two operas. He is buried at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Cemetery in Berlin.
