Alexey Taran is the Founder, Choreographer and Artistic Director of Bistoury Physical Theatre and Film. His work involves respect and curiosity for the extraordinary creative movement of the Latin American megalopolis, both for its ambiguity as well as for the continent's ethnic-cultural diversity.

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba. He grew up in Havana and graduated from Cuban National Ballet School /Cuba’s National Art Schools. Taran became a ballet dancer of the Cuban National Ballet Company (1998-1990). He has taught improvisation workshops in various international dance companies, dance schools and dance festivals including: Cuban National School of Dance. Open Dance Company of Cuba. Exodos Festival of Contemporary Performing Art Ljubljana, Slovenia. Dance & Non-Verbal Theatre Festival San Vincent, Croatia. USAPAR, Venezuela. Ballet Nacional de Caracas Teresa Carreño Venezuela. Teatro Maderos Valledupar, Colombia. He also choreographed with many companies including Neodanza de Caracas, Rajatabla, Center for Dramatic Arts Zagreb, Tempo Venezuela, Broward College, Miami.

Alexey´s work has been presented in important venues such Miami On Stage Black Box Theatre, Miami Theater Center, Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Biennale di Venice, Italy. La MaMa E.T.C. and Movement Research at the Judson Church, New York. 10th Dance & Non-Verbal Theatre Festival in Croatia. XVII International Festival Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His stage and film work with Bistoury has received important awards. Alexey´s work has won more than 20 National and International awards like Guggenheim Fellowship, Dance Miami Choreographers' (DMC) Program, Individual Artist Fellowship Program from the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, New Music USA, New Time´s Master Mind Award, Author Award Category Independent Choreographer from the International Choreographic Encounters of Seine, Saint Denis, France, Latin American Platform “Movements 96” Germany.
