About

Born in Paraguay, Maria Arrua began her musical training at the age 10 at the National Conservatory of Music of Paraguay. During her studies at the Conservatory, Ms. Arrua served as Assistant Concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra since its foundation in 2004 until 2007. She studied additionally with renowned musicians Gotz Bernau, Alberto Varady, Pedro Delarole, and Emmanuele Baldini.

Ms. Arrua came to the U.S. in the year 2007. In 2011 she graduated Summa Cum Laude in Bachelor in Music Performance - Violin from the Louisiana State University, studying under Dr. Lin He. In May 2013 she earned a Master of Music at the Pennsylvania State University studying under Prof. James Lyon.

Her professional orchestral experience includes playing with the Champaign Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Sinfonietta, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Paraguay. She has also appeared as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Paraguay, the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Asuncion, the Chamber Orchestra of the Municipality of Asuncion, the State College Summer Orchestra, and the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2013, Ms. Arrua was invited to join the Zeta Iota Chapter of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society. She was also the 2013 recipient of the Penn State Creative Achievement Award.

She took part in several prestigious summer festivals: Festival Nas Montanhas (2007), Aspen Music Festival (2009), Brevard Music Center (2010), Castleman Quartet Program (2011), receiving full scholarship in all. 

She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Violin Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois, studying under Prof. Nelson Lee.
