William Crane Carl was an American organist and music teacher. Carl was from 1882 organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Newark, New Jersey. A study stay with Alexandre Guilmant in Paris 1890-91 leads to a lifelong friendship between the two musicians. Upon his return, Carl 1892 became organist and choir director at the First Presbyterian Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
