Samuel Friedrich Capricornus, born Samuel Friedrich Bockshorn was a Czech composer. In his short life, it is known that he was a teacher and one of his students was the French composer and violinist, Johann Fischer (1650 - 1721). Capricornus was a prolific composer, he has created works of almost all genres and is regarded as one of the main representatives of accompanied song in his time. He also contributed in the transition period between Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach to the development of the Geistliches Konzert and the cantata.
