John Benet was an English composer whose music was known on the Continent, and is found in the Trent Codices. Master of Choristers of St. Anthony's Hospital (London). In 1448-49, a member of the Confraternity of St. Nicholas (London). His motets illustrate the use of total isorhythm, and his Mass movements, which contrast a declamatory style in settings of the Gloria with a more melismatic one in Sanctus and Agnus settings, mark an important stage in the development of the cyclic Mass (the complete Ordinary).
