Christian Gotthilf Tag was a Protestant cantor and composer. He was born in 1735 as the son of Beierfelds cantor and schoolteacher Christian Gottlob Tag. After the first school in his Erzgebirge home he attended as free student Dresdner Cross School, where he received musical training as a chorister at alumnus and Gottfried August Homilius. Although he wanted to enroll at the University of Leipzig as a student of theology, he took in 1755 in the small Saxon town Hohenstein the cantor place to which he remained faithful until 1808. He moved in with his daughter in Niederzwönitz, where he died in 1811.
