Christian Cappelen was a Norwegian composer and organist. He studied music in Leipzig and Dresden. For many years he was organist in Drammen. Between 1887 and 1916 he was organist at the cathedral in Oslo and had therefore held an important position within the Norwegian church music. He has given concerts all over the country and was particularly known for his organ improvisations . From 1890 to 1916 he taught at the theological faculty of the University of Oslo. As a composer he was influenced by the music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Robert Schumann. He wrote songs, organ and piano pieces and cantatas. It is particularly well known in Norway its melody to the song Min Herre har cold meg.
