Beethoven's Symphony no. 7 is a work in four movements written in 1812-13 and dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries. At its première, Beethoven was noted as remarking that it was one of his best works. The second movement was the most popular and had to be encored. Its instant success resulted in its frequent performance separate from the rest of the work.
