Frédéric Chopin wrote his Mazurka in A minor, B. 140, in 1840. It was published a year later. As it doesn't have a proper Op. number, it is usually identified by its Brown catalogue number, B. 140, or as KK IIb/5, and S 2/5 in the Kobylanska and Chominski catalogues respectively. It was dedicated to Émile Gaillard, and at some point later appeared in Album de pianistes polonais.
