5 Songs, Op. 104

The 5 Songs, Op. 104, were written in 1888 by Johannes Brahms, based on texts by Friedrich Rückert (1788-1866), Max Kalbeck (1850–1921), Josef Wenzig (1807–1876), and Klaus Groth (1819–1899). The five pieces convey a nostalgic and tragic mood, and even though the parts are not technically demanding, the sombre nature of the texts makes the pieces complex in terms of interpretation.
