Schumann Arabeske in C major, Op. 18

Robert Schumann wrote his Arabeske in C major, Op. 18 in 1839, and dedicated it to Majorin Friederike Serre auf Maxen. At the time he was in Vienna, depressed by his detachment of Clara Wieck because of her father's attitude towards their relationship, and his own professional disappointment. He wrote the arabesque in C major deeply influenced by the writings of Christian Schuburt, in which C major was identyfied with the childish and simple.
