I am a graduated music teacher and a musician with vast live experience at gigs in many different genres from my country. You can check some of my work at instagram, @calvinsucena and @quartetinhojazz. This class is not only for guitar, my main instrument, but for every musician or fan who wants to become an expert in Brazilian Music. We are going to study and focus at your priorites, giving you the best instrumentists references, huge albuns and genres histories, harmonic/rhythm conceptions, exercises, transcriptions and more. Everybody knows Bossa-Nova, few know how to play it and fewer know other genres from Brasil, crucial to the works of Tom Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal and many others.
I base my classes totally on my students.
Some are piano/guitar/bass players just want to understand better bossa-nova to do better at gigs, so we get together into the works of the greatests instrumentists from Brazil and study, contextualizing with genres history, learning how to comp and the improvisation language used by them.
Some are huge fans who just want to compreend better our music. Brazil has more than 30 genres with a lot of history that inspired the whole world, from classical music to jazz. So we study a lot of discographies and works from geniuses like Villa-Lobos, Jobim, Caetano Velloso, Pixinguinha and many more
