John Burton was an English harpsichordist, organist and composer. A celebrated performer, he composed keyboard music and songs; his 10 sonatas of 1766, several movements from which became very popular, have the earliest known mention of the piano on an English titlepage, and he was among the earliest to play the instrument in public.
